Even if you only have a few employees you can contribute greatly to the success of your sign business by being the best leader possible for them.
When a business has a strong leader, everyone tends to fall in line and help run the company like a well oiled machine. There is direction, authority, clear expectations and a sense of pride associated with completing tasks.

- Be a hard worker. You can’t expect your employees to work hard if you are slacking! If you are always busy working hard, they will be more likely to do the same.
- Treat your employees how you want to be treated and how you want them to treat other employees and customers. Again, your employees are going to see the way you behave and take that as a model.
- Be with your staff as much as possible. No matter how good they are, the truth of the matter is the ship is always run the tightest when the captain is watching.
- Let your staff do their work. Sure, you want to be there for them, and help out, but if you are constantly micro-managing your employees you are depriving them of the opportunity to take the initiative. You also run the risk of lowering their self-esteem or disrupting their work.
- Keep your staff, customers and suppliers up to date with what is going on with the business. Initiate conversations, ask for their opinions and listen to their answers. Having open communication with these people will help you keep your finger on the pulse of the business.
- Be the expert. You should know your business better than anyone. This includes knowing what functions each employee performs, how every detail of the business works. Of course, you may not be able to do everything yourself, but you should know what needs to be done to make your business work.
