The GO UNO laser transfer process ushered in a new wave of versatility in garment decoration. One of the newest ripples is a new and improved transfer paper for decorating hard surfaces. The new paper works with both the GO UNO and the OKI 711WT printers. It improves transfer image quality and adds lots of new substrates. So this particular ripple brings lots of new business opportunities bobbing in your direction. Here are the details
How it works
Decorating hard surfaces with a GO UNO works the same way as decorating a white shirt. A one step weedless paper is used to transfer the toner to the object. So you simply design your graphic, reverse or ‘mirror’ the image and print it using the GO UNO printer driver. Then place the transfer paper on the object to be decorated and place it in a heat press. The application of heat and pressure transfers and seals the toner to the object creating a lightfast custom decoration.
The primary difference between decorating rigid blanks and white apparel is the time and temperature settings for the heat press vary according to the substrate. Some of the settings for compatible substrates have changed. Magnets for instance, now require 60 seconds at 300°F rather than 230°F. And a silicone pad is now included in each pack of paper.
Changes from original HS Paper
• New ingredient. The aforementioned silicone foam pad is vital. Using it with magnetic substrates produces crisp, clear transfers. Using the exact same steps without the silicone foam pad overheats the magnet and results in an unsatisfactory transfer. The silicone foam pad is as essential as the paper and toner, so don’t toss it aside.
• New settings. As noted above, the new paper has different polymer coating and new settings. So if you’ve been decorating magnets or mugs with the older EnduraTRANS HS paper, check the new instruction sheet and update your settings.
• New substrates. The list of approved substrates for the new HS2 paper has some additions and subtractions. Anodized metals, coated wood, cardboard, stainless steel mugs and bottles, aluminum and stainless steel bottles, glass, crystal, and Unisub metal blanks have been added. Mouse pads have been removed. Not to worry. Mouse pads can be decorated with EnduraTRANS FHC paper using exact same settings as T-shirts. It’s much easier to do with the FHC paper because you don’t have to remove the hot paper in just 3 seconds or have it stick permanently to the pad. The expanded list of compatible substrates greatly expands the envelope or GO UNO users.
You can tell the new from the old by inspecting the back of the paper. The old version had a red pattern on the back. The new HS2 paper is unmarked. Just load it glossy side up, using the Label or Heavy media weight setting. The new part number is marked by an HS2. It comes in letter and tabloid size sheets.
